New Farmers. The CAP and the challanges of European Agriculture – the cultivation of basil

44-year-old Sergio Casotti together with his parents Roberto and Maria, his wife Monica and two collaborators runs in the municipality of Genova-Voltri a farming company specialising in the cultivation of basil.
Their company is really small and cultivates all year round in terraced greenhouses covering over 4.000 sq ms. It is symbolic of suspended agriculture above the sea and a cuisine of ancient flavours. With careful attention paid to environmental sustainability, this company works according to D.O.P. Genovese Basil production regulations and the Collective geographical Mark by the Genova Farming Union.
